Developing community.

We develop community through public relations efforts and the economic
development of the
 Central Business District of Richmond.

Economic Development

A unique part of what we do at The Innovation Center is foster an environment of growth and encourage investment in the central business district of Richmond. This effort is known as the Center City Development Corporation.

Upstairs Housing Grants:

In partnership with the City of Richmond and the Dept. of Metro Development, we oversee this program that provides up to $18,000 toward the redevelopment of an upper-story unit in the downtown Richmond area. Building owners are eligible for the grant by operating a business on the first floor and living in the stories above.

Commercial Properties:

The Innovation Center acts as a liaison between building owners, prospective buyers and tenants, and the City of Richmond, in order to provide information about availability of commercial property and incentives to owning property in the downtown and surrounding areas.

Fiscal Agency:

We serve as a fiscal agent to projects that seek administrative oversight of finances. Recent projects include the Brewcentennial Celebration in August 2016 and the ongoing renovation of the Historic Train Depot building.

Urban Enterprise Association
(UEA) programming

Every month, The Innovation Center designs and implements programs specifically tailored to the interests and needs of the residents and merchants of the Urban Enterprise Zone, a designated corridor which is comprised mainly of downtown Richmond and adjacent neighborhoods.

Public Relations

Building and maintaining strong relationships, with our community members and organizations, is at the heart of what we do. Center City strives to always be a resource to connect people in need.

At 814 East Main St., many of the community’s organizations converge to discuss ideas, plan for improvement, coordinate activities, learn from each other, and execute their missions. We host an average of about 650 people every month through a combination of conferences, workshops, board meetings, seminars, co-working, and collaborative conversation.

Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce:

The Innovation Center and the Chamber enjoy a very strong partnership. We accomplish this through a common mission and vision, joint sponsorship of programs, and sharing of marketing resources. All of these efforts have the goal of strengthening the community’s business climate and working together toward that end.

Downtown Business Group:

The members of this group own property, work, and live in the downtown Richmond area. By staying connected to their mission and showing strong support for their vision, The Innovation Center is an advocate and catalyst for helping these merchants grow.
